DISCOVER KARINE JACKSON SUSTAINABLE HAIR SALON
KARINE’S EARLY BEGINNINGS
Karine’s introduction to hairdressing was at her parent's salon in Wollongong, Australia. Already at 15 years old, she knew she would one day become an influencing figure within this creatively intelligent, passionate world of hairdressing & fashion.
With the experience of her family salon in her back pocket and butterflies in her stomach, Karine boarded a flight to London 5 years later.
Her determination and willingness to learn landed her a job at a well known London. Karine’s drive to showcase her, and her colleague’s, work motivated her to start that salon's first-ever Art Team. After a few years, she felt confident she was ready to join an industry-leading salon.
CHARLES WORTHINGTON
By this stage, Charles Worthington had already won Hairdressers of the Year in 1996 & 1998 and also awarded the acclaimed Fellowship Hairdresser of the year award in 1998. Karine's inner compass steered her in the direction of the industry’s best. Working alongside Charles Worthington would be both an honour, and a great way to keep honing her craft.
THE SALON’S GRAND OPENING
By 2003, there was only one thing left to do. Karine opened your own salon to start building a legacy of her own and oh boy, did she get that right!! Two doors away from the world-famous Ivy Restaurant in London’s West End, she knew the location was right to put her name above the door.
“Our industry's future belongs to those who balance creativity, client experience, who are kind to their team & the environment”
One year after Charles Worthington was awarded an MBE for his services to hairdressing, Karine won her first major award “London Hairdresser of the year, 2007”. From that day forward, she knew the little 15-year-old girl from Wollongong had mastered her craft. Since that day, the awards have never been in short supply at Karine Jackson Sustainable Hair & Beauty Salon.
THE SALON VALUES
With a salon motto like this one, it’s no surprise some team members have worked at the salon since day one. The stability in the team is a testament to the salon’s everyday atmosphere. Regular clients often mention how nice it is to see familiar greeting them when they arrive.
BE KIND TO EVERY KIND
Being kind to people is just the start. Being kind to the environment is also a value Karine and the team are not willing to compromise on. Being named the UK’s first sustainable salon in 2017 cemented the organic, plastic-free, vegan and environmentally friendly core values of the salon.
When switching from a well-known colour house to Organic Colour Systems, the company immediately made Karine their international Creative Director and is now in charge of producing the main images to promote the organic brand.
EQUALITY & LEADERSHIP
Another subject close to Karine’s heart equality. She was invited by BBC’s Women’s Hour to discuss a subject close to her heart:
“Why, within an industry made up of 88% women, are there no famous female hairdressers?”
Vidal Sassoon, Trevor Sorbie, Charles Worthington. Just a few high-profile male hairdressers whose names will, more often than not, ring a bell, if only for their range of styling products that sit on the shelves of shops up and down the country.
